DATE NIGHT
FIRST 10 MINUTES
Steve Carell and Tina Fey in the same movie? Sign me up! This has got to be hilarious! And I'm hoping it will be. But it's not yet. I mean, it's not bad, and there are some funny moments (like when they make up stories and dialogue for the couples eating at nearby tables in a restaurant pretty damn funny!), but the movie is starting kinda slow.
We all know that they're gonna end up on some incredible and dangerous and funny adventure, but it hasn't even gotten to the setup yet. I kinda figured the adventure would at least be set up in the first ten minutes, but so far it's playing out more like a version of Cheaper by the Dozen (albeit a funnier version). I mean, I get that they're a married couple in something of a rut, but I got that much from the first five seconds of the trailer. Get on with it! (If I were a script reader... I pass!)
But again, it's Tina Fey and Steve Carell, so I'm gonna keep watching for sure. Despite the fact that it has a slow start, I'm still looking forward to their adventure, and I think I'm gonna like it. For now, 2.5 stars with hopes of raising it later.
FOLLOW-UP
Well, it did get better, but it's not very consistent. When this movie is funny, it's 4-star funny. But it throws in way too many 2-star moments. So it all averages out to about 3 stars. One thing's for sure: When given good material, Carell and Fey can be very funny together. Hopefully, we'll see a movie in the future that takes full advantage of their comic chemistry.
FIRST 10 MINUTES
I love Steve Carell and Tina Fey. I love them both so much. They are funny, oh so funny, I'd love to know what the improv-to-scripted ratio is for this movie, but it doesn't matter, I am just happy.
But, oh no, the weird, creepy blind guy from Contact is in this! I know he has paid his dues as a character actor, but I hate seeing him, I don't know why, he just creeps me out. He seems like a human ghost to me.
On another plus note, I am excited that Lauren Weedman and Kristin Wiig are in this, they are also two of my favorites. So far I have nothing negative to say, I am excited to watch this!

FOLLOW-UP
Oh no, it was an action movie!!! Sad, there were glimmers of Steve Carell and Tina Fey being funny, but they were forced into blockbuster action roles and it didn't quite work. So, so sad.
