Here's a spot to start all your good intentioning.

I seemed to do OK with 14 last year, though I probably saw the first 10 well before June. I'll be a little more ambitious this year:

My resolution this year--and it is a very modest one, nay embarassing one, in this company--is to go to a movie in the actual theater once a month this year. That seems imminently do-able, right?

However, it was also my resolution *last* year and I only managed it twice.

I'm recycling leftovers from last year (red titles). Looking over ICM lists, I have 7 titles that I missed in theaters in the last two years and 2 Tarantino films I somehow never got around to. I also aim to add 5 Best Picture nominees to my lists, as well as 4 other titles that otherwise move me closer to completing ICM's most checked list. By the time I stopped writing titles, I realized I'd committed myself to a daunting 30 films this year (daunting since I fell 9 shy of completing 24 last year.)

Made my list out of the five I didn't get to last year, high entries on the imdb 250 that I'm missing, some Canadian content, and a couple others I'm interested in, but think I need the resolution to make me watch.

  1. :empty: Crash (1996)
  2. :empty: The Elephant Man
  3. :empty: For A Few Dollars More
  4. :empty: Full Metal Jacket
  5. :empty: Harold and Maude
  6. :empty: Lifeboat
  7. :empty: The Lion in Winter
  8. :empty: Nashville
  9. :empty: Now, Voyager
  10. :empty: Serpico
  11. :empty: Thirty Two Short Films About Glenn Gould
  12. :empty: The Wages of Fear
  13. :empty: Wild Strawberries
  14. :empty: Yojimbo

(Edited to take out In the Heat of the Night since I'm working on the Best Pictures list separately, and didn't want overlap.)

I kind of want to give this a try. I'm creating the first list based on Best Picture nominees. With one exception, I'm going from the 1970s to the end of the 80s to keep the list as short as possible.

Best Picture nominees
1. :empty: The Apartment
2. :empty: The Last Picture Show
3. :empty: The Sting
4. :empty: The Conversation
5. :empty: Lenny
6. :empty: Barry Lyndon
7. :empty: Bound for Glory
8. :empty: Annie Hall
9. :empty: Ordinary People
10. :empty: Amadeus
11. :empty: Witness
12. :empty: Children of a Lesser God
13. :empty: Broadcast News

Other:
14. :empty: Amelie
15. :empty: Harvey
16. :empty: Stalag 17
17. :empty: Lolita
18. :empty: Save the Tiger

I dont think it was a big thing in the UK, around christmas we had raiders of the lost ark, return of the jedi or the great escape always on when I was a kid.
