My sister was deathly afraid of bathrooms when she heard that story. Someone had to go in before her and turn on the light before she'd go in.

I love Urban Legends. Another UL that freaks me out is about a girl (roommate #1) who comes back to her college dorm room, late at night, and notices that roommate #2 is in bed with some guy (she hears noises, but assumes it's sex sounds)...so Roommate #1 doesn't turn on any light and slips into bed, puts headphones on and falls asleep. The next morning #1 awakens to find #2 murdered and written (in blood, of course) on the mirror are the words "Aren't you glad you didn't turn on the light?"

I LOVE that story!!!!!

Now that you mention it....it's starting to ring a bell.....if I recall the girl that is killed in bed is a Goth chick (and wasn't very friendly with the room mate). Or vice versa!

Just got up...let me get some caffeine in me, and I'll get back to you.

I had a huge fascination with urban legends when I first discovered the concept. I spent hours on snopes going "I've heard that one." There was also a lot of "Wait, that's not true?"

I did, too...still do. I used to live in the southern part of NJ (home of the Pine Barrens where the Jersey Devil lives). I know all about that shit. That's my favorite place in NJ (the pines)...so peaceful, yet creepy. It's one of the last isolated places left in NJ. There are also a shitload of ULs about the Pineys (the only people who dare live in the Pine Barrens...weird shit).

I had a class in college called "Witches and Vampires." It was ( ) an Anthropology elective. It had a 2-semester waiting list. I took that class at night. The professor was awesome and she devoted one class strictly to Urban Legends (and my college has a few of them)...I about shit a brick walking back to my car at 9pm.

It took a (long) while, but the film I was thinking of was .... Urban Legend (how stupid is that). Alicia Witt comes into the room thinking her roommate is having rough sex, yadda, yadda, yadda

Bandwagon for what? Folks that don't get it? Folks that don't like it? If it's either of those options, I can't join you.

It's just too samey to Tru Blood, Walking Dead, stuff like that.. for me. Even the opening credits are the same.

Maybe it gets better, and Jessica Lange is hilarious. Sorry, I'll try watching a few more, but it's not for me so far. Maybe I'm just pissed its on as same time as too many other things, I'm just waiting for season 2 when fairies and werewolves join in. I stopped watching Tru Blood, and even Dexter is too meh now. How often can the guy keep bumping into other serial killers?

Anyways, maybe it gets better

I started enjoying it more when the guest stars started to show up... and realized that since the guest stars are ghosts attached to the house... they will be around awhile. Even in future seasons if they really do go with a new family moving in every season.

As I've never watched some of the others you mentioned (Tru, Dexter) I really can't comment. If it is similar, at least for me it's fresh. Not sure I see a comparison with WD (I also am enjoying that show).

It probably is just me mate, just you see one tv show of a certain genre, and every other type will come out, werewolf shows, vampire shows, zombie shows, of course a ghost show (or whatever the feck it is) was going to come next.

Watched the pilot over the weekend. Now in intense debate about whether to delete the rest (it would free up so much space, and it is a little over the level of scary I'm comfortable with) or keep watching (some bits of it - like the maid perception - are fairly intriguing, I like the actors).

It had some great moments, but it also had some really freaky ones, and I'm trying to decide which way the balance tips.

Unless NoShoes is fucking with me, I really didn't remember that UL in the movie...and I didn't hate the movie. It had its moments. Do I need a rank change to FilmWise Village Idjit?

Yeah, not so much. Freaked me out like little else. I started it in full daylight, but then had to be somewhere, so just put it on pause. Right before bed, I thought, "oh, only 20 minutes to go, how bad can it be?" Yeah, I've slept with the light on the past two nights.

I hate all the shots where one of the characters is in the foreground, and you just see a shadow run by in the background.

The problem is, I'm really intrigued by some of the issues. Like, I want to know what the deal is with Tate. I assumed him showing up in the house/being part of the disposal team makes him some sort of ghost. But Dylan McDermott called his mom. That seems to break Sixth Sense type rules.

So I'm still not sure if I'm sticking with it or not. Guess I'll see if I can get a full night's sleep first.

find a quirky comedy and drink some chamomile tea and you'll be right as rain. stick to daylight showings after that. ;)

Do you recall which shitty horror film fucked that UL up?

Now that you mention it....it's starting to ring a bell.....if I recall the girl that is killed in bed is a Goth chick (and wasn't very friendly with the room mate). Or vice versa!

Just got up...let me get some caffeine in me, and I'll get back to you.

It took a (long) while, but the film I was thinking of was .... Urban Legend (how stupid is that). Alicia Witt comes into the room thinking her roommate is having rough sex, yadda, yadda, yadda

Really? I feel retarded now.

I thought you guys were just messing around.

 Same here.

Unless NoShoes is fucking with me, I really didn't remember that UL in the movie...and I didn't hate the movie. It had its moments. Do I need a rank change to FilmWise Village Idjit?

 wish I could say I was, but sadly, no. I chalk it up to a senior moment. PS: Please cast me a FWV Idjit 2

Please, can we talk Todd into changing his rank to FW Village Idiot? cuz that would be awesome. Nothing personal against Todd, I just can't think of a better FW handle to pair that rank with (bear in mind I'm still well under 10k) 8)

I'm still not overly convinced about American Horror Story. We've just had the first part of the Halloween episode (with the overly camp Zachary Quinto character) and the pregnant woman is quite frankly doing my head in.

Far, far too many cliches but it is intruigingly creepy and I think that's what is keeping me watching. Will stick with it for now and hoping that they repeat the series at some point as I'd rather like to watch the episodes again.
