I'm not sure if there's enough interest in The Simpsons to debate this here but we've all been crying out for something new to talk about so here goes. I'd like to hear your views on what you think are the best and worst episodes of The Simpsons (or 'Yellowlings' if you're a complete ****) ever. This was spawned from a lengthy debate between my housemate and I (or me and my housemate. Whichever it is, it's too late for grammar). When considering this it is important to ignore factors such as 'i've seen this episode too many times' or 'I do/n't like that character' and concentrate on the number of high quality jokes, and just how funny the jokes are or why in particular the episode annoys you.
Our first suggestion for the best episode would be
Cape Feare. On the surface it's just the episode that gets remembered for The Thompsons, but when you examine it carefully this includes some

Simpsons moments.
Review of first half of episode wrote:
The opening segment with Ranier Wolfcastle suggesting everyone are homosexuals is classic, especially with the image of him pointing at the crowd (which will make a great avatar when available). Next Lisa's penpal letter being taken over by General Krull. Then there's all the letters written to Bart by Sideshow Bob except the one from Homer, which he wrote in retaliation to his new tattoo. 'Wide Load' is hi-larious. Grandpa's line about corn on the cob follows that, and is another gem. The next scene sees Bart in the playground scared of what will happen, and even though this is an obvious joke it's still pulled off with much humour. Following this is Bart's paranoia sequence, the best bit of which is Flanders' "Cos the schools can't make you like they should". Next there's the police station scene with Marge educating Chief Wiggum on the law, which results in the halting of the 'squirrels down trousers' gambling. Comedy gold. Then Lisa makes a threatening phone call to Mo and he gets rid of the pandas he's been smuggling. So random, but so funny. Following this is Bob's collapse from blood loss. "Use a pen side show Bob" is another example of an obvious joke but an oh so funny one. Next the parole hearing has a number of top drawer moments, in particular "No one who speaks German could be an evil man". Next we move to the cinema with Bob fluffing his evil line then asking for a do-over. The Bob sound 'grrwwwweeehhhh' is brilliant in itself...
In fact that's only halfway through the episode and i've already typed too much. (I was actually gonna delete all that above but thought that would be a waste of a lot of typing) I can't think of any other episode with so many of the highest quality gags. But i'd like to hear from any of you that prefer another episode and why. (I believe the 'official' favourite episode ever is
Deep Space Homer, but I just don't see it)
As for worst episode, the best (or is it still worst?) we could come up with was
Homer vs Dignity aka the one were Homer becomes Mr. Burns' prank-monkey. Sure there are a couple of laughs, "What are you doing man? That's Carl!" and "Don't touch me! Nothing gives you that right", but the pranks Homer has to perform just aren't really funny. And the end, with the fish guts, just plain doesn't make sense. Homer rises above Burns' bribes to achieve a 'moral victory'. But he's still lets Burns get away with what he wanted, and ruins the image of Santa for the orphan boy and the other kids watching, not to mention letting his family get covered in the guts, so shouldn't be seen as any sort of a happy ending.
Anyway i've give you my views, so let's here what you think.
