The last CDs you bought

#1 Post by Greg the Guileful » 20 Nov 2003, 07:52

since the other music thread has become more of a general duscussion thread, i thought i'd create something more focused, along the same lines as the 'last dvds' and 'last movie watched' threads...

if you'd like to use the same rating method, feel free...i know sometimes i can't truly rate a cd until i've listened to it multiple times, but maybe i'm just weird...

anyway, perhaps, this will generate some more music-based discussions and make us more aware of our musical tastes...

the last bunch i ordered:

kill bill vol.1 soundtrack - only gave it a quick listen so far...

the strokes - room on fire - listened to half on my drive to work and so far i'm quite enjoying it...sounds a lot like the first cd, which is ok by me...

the ones i haven't listened to yet:

travis - 12 memories

sarah mclachlan - afterglow

Travis - 12 memories :3stars: It's good... but not as good as their other ones. Maybe it'll grow on me.

Yeah, I'm a poor college student, so the last CD I purchased was back on June 5th. It was Metallica: St. Anger. I love it. But then, I love everything Metallica.

Damien Rice - O :4.5stars: I would've given it 5 stars but the music is so mellow and slow that it sometimes makes me depressed. But I love it anyway!

I don't buy CDs often, cause they're so bloody expensive here mainly, but the other day I bought.

R.E.M. - Best of - I don't know why cause I have all their other albums :-?
Chris Rea - Best of - This ain't no technological breakdown...
Counting Crows - Hard Candy - Only had a 'stolen' copy before
The Wallflowers - Red Letter Days - Man, are they great

I'm a compulsive CD buyer because I get cheap, "old" music at my local Tower Records, so I don't have to worry about paying 25 bucks or whatever for one CD (plus they have a great variety!). So, anyway, these are the last three I bought (all "4 stars").
Joni Mitchell-Court and Spark: I think Mitchell is a great songwriter and this album really shows it. My favorite tracks are "Free Man in Paris", "Court and Spark" and "Car on a Hill". The only thing that doesn't keeps this from being a "5 star" is the last track, "Twisted" with Cheech and Chong, which just kills it, so :4stars:
Van Morrison-Tupelo Honey: My mom hates Morrison, but I think his music is very authentic, folk rocky stuff; "Wild Night", "Old Old Woodstock" and "Moonshine Whiskey" are the standouts. :4stars:
Easy Rider Soundtrack: This is a total 60's soundtrack from a great film about the counterculture. My reason for getting it in the first place was for "The Weight" because I think that's a great song....but I also like The Byrd's "Wasn't Born to Follow" and Jimi Hendrix Experience's "If 6 Was 9" :4stars:

Their greatest hits comes out 11/25. It's supposed to have 2 new songs on it.

I love the Maroon 5 CD!!! I got it last year for Christmas and I still listen to it all the time. I can't think of one song I don't like.

They're awesome in concert too!
