Interesting Movie References in Songs

#1 Post by Batman » 23 Jun 2020, 04:32

I was just listening to Flo-Rida's "I Don't Like It, I Love It" (featuring Robin Thicke and Verdine White) and really liked his phrase, "Bangarang just like Ruffio."

What are some other movie-referencing lines in songs that you enjoy?
Robin: "Gosh, Batman, is there anything you don't know?"
Batman: "Oh yes, Robin. Several things, in fact."

Blink 182's "I Miss You" has the phrase “We can live like Jack and Sally and have Halloween on Christmas if we want” in the first verse.

I suppose we should also mention Wonderwall and Breakfast at Tiffanys, films immortalized in song by Oasis and Deep Blue Something, respectively.

From "Frank and Lola", also by Jimmy Buffett

So he took her to this movie called "Body Heat"
She said, "The Junior Mints were mushy and the sex was neat"
Everything is awesome

Not a movie, but a TV reference. Should've Been A Cowboy by Toby Keith

I bet you've never heard ol' Marshal Dillon say
Miss Kitty, have you ever thought of runnin' away?
Settlin' down, would you marry me
If I asked you twice and begged you, pretty please?
She'd have said, "Yes", in a New York minute
They never tied the knot, his heart wasn't in it
He just stole a kiss as he rode away
He never hung his hat up at Kitty's place
Headed for the grocery store, Wish me luck.

I don't know that this is the exact same thing, but the first thing I thought of was the use of movie quotes within a song.

Examples:

Jay-Z and Kanye West - Ni**as in Paris - Blades of Glory
Jay-Z - What More Can I Say - Gladiator
The Fun Lovin' Criminals - Scooby Snacks - Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs
GNR - Civil War - Cool Hand Luke
Mika - Grace Kelly starts with a play on a line from The Country Girl

But my favorite:
REGULATORS!!! Mount up!
Man, what is happenin'? Long time, no see.

I saw this posted somewhere else recently, but I never realized Fatboy Slim sampled Angela Bassett from Strange Days.

[johnnycarson]I did not know that.[/johnnycarson] That reminds me of how EMF put Andrew Dice Clay back on MTV after he'd been banned by sampling him on "Unbelievable".
